Selena Gomez reunion Wizards of Waverly Place family

Selena Gomez recently had a heartwarming reunion with several former Wizards of Waverly Place co-stars. This exciting get-together coincided with the exciting news of an upcoming spinoff of the beloved Disney series. David Henrie and David DeLuise, who portrayed Alex Russo’s brother Justin and dad Jerry, respectively, joined Selena Gomez in a photo shared on Instagram. Maria Canals Barrera, who played the role of the kids’ mom, Theresa, was also part of the reunion.

Where they met

David DeLuise took to Instagram on January 26, sharing a photo and captioned it with “The Russos…coming back #wizardsofwaverlyplace @wizardspod.” He was referring to the Wizards of Waverly Pod podcast, which he co-hosts with Jennifer Stone, another former cast member. She played Alex’s best friend, Harper Finkle. Jennifer Stone became a registered nurse in 2020, during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A week later, on January 25, David Henrie posted a photo on Instagram featuring himself, Selena Gomez, and the new cast members joining the spinoff. He humorously wrote, “The Russo’s have grown ;).”

The exciting part is that, as E! News confirmed, Wizards of Waverly Place, originally aired from 2007 to 2012, is getting a sequel. Selena Gomez, aged 31, and David Henrie, aged 34, are not just reuniting but will also serve as executive producers for the sequel.

About the sequel

In this yet-untitled spinoff, David Henrie will reprise his role as Justin as a regular cast member. Selena Gomez will make a guest appearance as Alex in the pilot episode. The storyline follows Justin’s attempts to lead an everyday, non-magical life with his wife, portrayed by Mimi Gianopulos, and their two sons, played by Alkaio Thiele and Max Matenko. To add to the excitement, Janice LeAnn Brown from Euphoria will play a young wizard named Billie, who seeks training from Justin.
