He then shifted his focus to Susan, his wife for almost two decades. “I owe a huge thank you to my wife, Susan Downey,” he said. She discovered me, much like a rescue animal, and nurtured me back to health. That’s the reason I’m standing here.”
Downey Jr. also expressed enthusiasm for being part of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. “This job meant more to me than I to it. It’s transformed me for the better,” he added.
He highlighted the significance of their work and remarked, “Our work matters and the stories we choose to tell are significant.”
The actor started thanking his team, including his agent Phillip Raskin, “den mother” Joy Feeley, and stylist Erika. He also humorously thanked his entertainment lawyer, Tom Hanson, for decades of support, including getting him insured and out of trouble. Ending on a personal note, he dedicated the award to his children, Avery and India.
