Nelson recounted that he had a chance meeting with Doherty two months prior. He said this was their first interaction in some time. Doherty first faced CancerCancer in 2015 and, following two years of treatment announced her remission. The disease, however, returned in 2020, escalating to stage IV breast cancer, and by November 2023, it had metastasized to her bones.
Faced with her prognosis, Doherty said, “I’m not ready to leave this life. I still have so much to live for, love, create, and hopefully contribute towards positive change.”
In January 2024, Doherty shared an update on her condition, revealing the response to a new treatment regimen on her “Let’s Be Clear” podcast with Dr. Amin Mirhadi, her radiation oncologist. “Despite initial doubts after four sessions, we observed significant improvements by the sixth or seventh treatment, breaking down the blood-brain barrier,” she recounted.
